Kartell was founded in 1949 by Giulio Castelli. His son-in-law, Claudio Luti, took over the company in 1988 and brought new ideas to the firm, as well as new designers, e.g., Piero Lissoni. The breakthrough for Kartell came in 1999 with the production of furniture made from polycarbonate. Today, Kartell is distinguished by its industrial manufacturing of the highest quality.
