The Ulmer Hocker was designed in 1954 by Max Bill, the first rector of the Ulm School of Design (HfG), together with Hans Gugelot for the students of the HfG. The piece of furniture was created in the school's own carpentry workshop using donated wood.
Thanks to its lightweight and stable construction, the stool is versatile – as a seat, side table, or shelf element, but also as a transport crate, serving tray, or table attachment.
