Thonet / S5002/C001 / Sofa

Based on the archetype of the minimalist sofa with a base made of bent tubular steel, which was first part of the Thonet portfolio in the 1930s, designer James Irvine developed a transformable and versatile furniture system called S 5000 in 2006. This sofa program is based on a simple and intelligent construction idea in a modular style.

Thonet began with the work of the cabinetmaker and builder Michael Thonet, who opened his first workshop in Boppard on the Rhine in 1819. With delicate and elegant chairs and by testing and applying new woodworking techniques, Michael Thonet achieved more than just regional fame. In 1853, Michael Thonet renamed the company Gebrüder Thonet.
