Thonet / 118 / wooden chair
Minimalistic and honest, yet elegant and delicate: The 118 is a classic wooden chair that adds subtle elegance to any dining table or restaurant. The principle of reducing a chair to as few components as possible was introduced by Michael Thonet in the middle of the 19th century. The 118 chair is a further development that takes the company's heritage into account - and goes a step further. Sebastian Herkner adds sophisticated details that make the design less dominant, but all the more elegant. Another special feature is the shape of the chair legs: they are rounded on the outside, straight on the inside - a shape that takes up the horseshoe-shaped base of the seat. The seat frame, bent from a single piece, and the hand-crafted seat covered with canework are based on the original Thonet bentwood chair, the 214.

Thonet began with the work of the cabinetmaker and builder Michael Thonet, who opened his first workshop in Boppard on the Rhine in 1819. With delicate and elegant chairs and by testing and applying new woodworking techniques, Michael Thonet achieved more than just regional fame. In 1853, Michael Thonet renamed the company Gebrüder Thonet.
